On January 22, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management (BSWML) issued short-term tenders for waste collection and transportation from the city's 243 neighborhoods, which have 4.2 million households and commercial structures.
BSWML issued the tender for the second time after most of the tenders did not meet the required specifications in the November tender. The revised tender is available until 8 February. The waste management authority hopes to complete the tendering procedures before the state assembly elections in March.
The assignment is divided into 89 sections, each of which covers two to three departments. The five-year contract is expected to cost Rs 5.90 billion per year. This works up to about Rs 2 million per month for each department.
This is the first time that a waste tender has been proposed for all departments at the same time. This tender will promote participation and assistance in simplifying waste collection and separation."
Bengaluru produces between 5,500 and 6,000 tons of waste every day. Households provide about 4,000-4,500 tons of waste, with bulk waste generators contributing another 1,500-200 tons. BSWML will now collect all municipal waste streams.
