The Indian Army and NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a division of NTPC Ltd, have a contract for the implementation of green hydrogen projects at military facilities. As stated in the MoU (memorandum of understanding) between NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd and the Indian Army, a phased identification of possible locations for the establishment of green hydrogen projects for the supply of energy will be carried out, according to a statement released from NTPC.
"To build, own and operate (BOO) green hydrogen projects in its facilities, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd and the Indian Army have signed a memorandum of understanding. Less Complex logistics, less dependence on fossil fuels and faster decarbonization are the goals," the statement.
A portfolio of 3.6 GW of renewable energy capacity is now being built by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd has been formed with an objective to accelerate the renewable energy growth of the company and increase the green footprint across country, offshore and overseas. NTPC REL is taking up large solar, wind and hybrid projects all over the country and developing Gigawatt scale renewable energy parks and projects in different states under UMREPP (ultra mega renewable energy power park) scheme of Government of India. In addition to this green hydrogen based mobility and ESG projects are also being pursued.
