L&T takes up Gulf contracts worth Rs. 1,366cr

Mumbai : L&T takes up Gulf contracts worth Rs. 1,366cr Engineering and construction giant Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged engineering, procurement and construction orders from scores of Gulf countries entailing an investment of Rs. 1,366cr. The scope of work includes construction of 225km over head transmission lines and laying 66km underground cables and also setting up eight substations. L&T Saudi Arabia LLC, a wholly owned arm of the Indian player has bagged a contract worth Rs. 597cr from the Saudi Electricity Company for building the project for feeding power to the Haramain high speed railway system which will connect Medina and Mecca via Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

In addition, EPC orders amounting to Rs. 497cr have been secured from UAE of which Rs. 422cr orders came from Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) for the construction of five medium voltage substations and laying associated cables of 33kv for the Khalifa Port and the project in question has to commissioned in 18 months. It has also secured Rs. 185cr contract from Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation for engineering supply, installation testing and commissioning of 66km of 220kv under ground cables, besides securing Rs. 87cr contract for three medium voltage substations and 33km cable laying work from the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company, sources said.
