UltraTech targets 200mtpa cement production capacity, aims to be among the largest cement makers globally: Chairman K M Birla

The country's leading cement maker UltraTech Cement is targeting a production capacity of 200 million tons per year (MTPA) as it seeks to become one of the world's largest cement companies, its chairman Kumar Mangalam said. Birla, when addressing the company's General Shareholders' Meeting. The company has already begun work on the next growth phase of adding 22.6 MTPA of additional capacity and upon completion, UltraTech will have cement production capacity of over 160 MTPA. "Your company is now targeting the ambitious goal of achieving a production capacity of 200 million tons. This will further strengthen our position as one of the largest cement companies in the world," Birla said while addressing shareholders at the 23rd General Meeting of UltraTech Cement. UltraTech had installed capacity of 132.4 MTPA in FY22 and then added another 5.5 MTPA in FY23, raising its total cement. Group firm Aditya Birla has doubled its gray cement production capacity from 66.3 MTPA in FY16 to 132.4 MTPA in FY23. “This breakneck pace of expansion is unprecedented in the industry,” he said. Calling FY23 a "significant milestone" for UltraTech, Birla said: "We achieved the unique distinction of being the first Indian cement company to record a sales volume of more than 100 million tons in a fiscal year." "This achievement is all the more remarkable considering that we reached a production capacity of over 100 million tons in just a few years... According to the information available on its portal, UltraTech has 23 integrated manufacturing units, 29 grinding units, a clinker unit and 8 Bulk Packaging Terminals. It is the third largest cement producer in the world, excluding China. UltraTech is the only cement company globally (outside of China) to have more than 100 MTPA of cement manufacturing capacity in a single country. The Company's business operations span the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and India.
