Shirdi Steel and Rollers has received a major nod from the Goa State Expert Appraisal Committee (Goa-SEAC) for the expansion of its steel unit at the Cuncolimb Industrial Park. The company's ambition to increase production capacity from one lakh ton per year (tpa) to 1.5 lakh tons per year (tpa) is now ready for realization.
The expansion plan of the steel unit, which covers two plots on the Cuncolim industrial estate, covers 9,000 square meters. area adjacent to the existing location. The approval of the Goa-SEAC indicates that this expansion area remains well within the boundaries of the industrial park.
The committee of experts has instructed the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) to provide a job description (ToR) to Shirdi Steel and Rollers, kicking off the process of obtaining environmental approval (EC) for the upcoming expansion effort.
In accordance with the notification issued on 20 July 2022, the re-rolling unit (secondary metallurgical processing industry) must obtain prior approval within one year from the date of issue of the notification. This regulatory impetus underlines the commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious growth in the steel sector.
