A total of 71.04 hectares of land will be allotted to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to set up auto sheds for four metro routes - Metro 4 (connecting Wadala to Kasarwadavli), Metro 4A (connecting connects Kasarwadavli with Gaimukh), Metro 10 (from Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk on Mira Road) and Metro 12 (extending from Kalyan to Taloja).
The parcel designated in Study No. 30 was originally owned by the State and used for agricultural purposes. It was rented to 167 tenants. Located near Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Ghodbunder Road, this land will play a crucial role in the expansion of the Mumbai Metro network
.In June, residents of Mogharpada town expressed their opposition to the construction of the car shed and called for fair compensation for locals affected by the project. Local villagers even staged a protest outside the Thane revenue office during a visit by revenue and MMRDA officials before the onset of monsoon
.Local Shiv Sena representatives, supporting the villagers cause, wrote a letter to the then MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas, requesting to stop the land acquisition process. The proposed policy indicates that rural residents are likely to receive 22.5 per cent of the developed land as compensation, under a model similar to the CIDCO policy
.In August, the MMRDA secured land for a car shed dedicated to the upcoming Metro Line 12, which will connect Kalyan to Taloja. Specifically, the Thane collector transferred 47 hectares of land in Niljepada to the MMRDA for this purpose.
