Kone Elevators India, a subsidiary of Finland's Kone Corporation, has set up an elevator research and development facility at the Sriperumbudur manufacturing complex near Chennai. This new facility includes a testing tower and laboratories, reflecting the company's commitment to innovation and quality assurance.
The test tower has the ability to test different speeds, including high-speed elevators. The test tower and R&D testing processes and equipment are built to perform various types of quality and reliability testing.
"The test tower and R&D center will meet the existing demand in the elevator and escalator market and the future needs of our customers," said Henrik Ehrnrooth, president and CEO of Kone Corporation.
With its experience in elevator manufacturing for the last 39 years, Kone in India is now expanding its portfolio by venturing into escalator manufacturing. The first pilot batch of escalators produced in this state-of-the-art facility underwent rigorous testing in new, state-of-the-art laboratories.
“Our aim is to meet the current and future requirements of the elevator industry for India and exports. Our R&D department now has in-house testing capabilities to cater to low, mid and high rise segments for our retail, commercial, healthcare, office and residential customers,” said Amit Gossain, MD, Kone India.
