The Vadodara division of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is actively developing freight terminals at various railway stations. Locations for these terminals have been identified in Makarpura, Varedia, New Sanjali, New Gothan and New Udhana. The bidding process has already begun to meet the industrial transportation needs of the area. These developments are part of DFCCIL's efforts to improve freight transportation in the region.
Additionally, DFCCIL is making efforts to establish an eco-corridor stretching from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) in Mumbai to Dadri. With this, DFCCIL wants to install solar energy systems in many stations to make them energy neutral.
As part of its continuous progress, DFCCIL has started trial runs of freight trains on the newly electrified railway route connecting Gothangam to Makarpura, covering a stretch of 115 km. This new railway route covers 135 km and passes through the districts of Surat, Bharuch and Vadodara in Gujarat.
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) connecting Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai passes through five states: Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
In December 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the dedicated freight corridor (DFC) network. The DFC project is strategically aligned with the National Railway Plan (NRP) to increase the modal share of railways in India from the current 28 per cent to 44 per cent by 2051.
Additionally, the Vadodara unit has been recognized for its excellent performance, having received the Running Efficiency Shield for the year 2022-2023 for the first time.
