The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has created the 'GreenBlueYellow Roof' (GBY Roof) incentive programme, aimed at motivating owners of independent properties, such as townhouses, bungalows or rental homes, to adopt green practices. Insiders suggest the proposed plan will be discussed at the next standing committee meeting scheduled for December 7.
According to sources, the initiative aims to enable homeowners to save water by harvesting rainwater, harness green energy by installing solar panels on rooftops and reduce the need for air conditioning by creating terraced gardens. to enrich interior spaces and cool naturally in summer.
However, it has been revealed that installation of solar energy systems and construction of underground tanks for rainwater harvesting are mandatory under the state government's General Development Control Regulation (GDCR) guidelines. These facilities are expected to be integrated into independent housing development plans. Surprisingly, the AMC has been inactive in enforcing this rule as indicated by sources.
Sources suggest that the main objective of this plan is to encourage owners of older homes to take energy-saving measures and implement sustainable resources.
