New Delhi's prestigious Manekshaw Center came alive on the morning of December 14, as celebrities, exhibitors, visitors and delegates gathered for the grand opening of the 14th Cement Exhibition and 9th Cement Review Conference of the India 2023. The momentous occasion was witnessed by The Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting by Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI; and Ali Emir Adiguzel, founder and director of the World Cement Association, who kicked off two days of in-depth discussions and collaborative initiatives.
Pratap Padode, founder of FIRST Construction Council (FCC), led the esteemed dignitaries to the Expo, where he facilitated presentations with the exhibitors and detailed discussions on the products and services on display. Coinciding with the 9th Indian Cement Review (ICR) Conference and the 7th Indian Cement Review Awards, Cement EXPO 2023 is masterfully organized by FCC, a leading infrastructure think tank, and Indian Cement Review (ICR), the leading cement publication from India with a rich legacy of 38 years. The 14th Cement EXPO received significant support from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government and Market (GeM) and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India (GoI).
The formal inauguration of the 9th Indian Cement Review Conference 2023 began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, accompanied by keynote speeches and addresses by distinguished chief guests and dignitaries. Featured speakers included Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Emir Adiguzel, Dr. LP Singh, Director General, National Cement and Building Materials Council, and Kaustubh Phadke, India Director, World Cement and Concrete Association.
The chief guests reiterated their confidence in the Indian cement industry's commitment to 'Driving Sustainability through Technology' and set the tone for the conference. The 9th Indian Cement Review Conference 2023 served as a dynamic forum that brought together diverse perspectives and stimulated discussions on technological innovations critical to the industry's sustainability journey. Focusing on the theme 'Driving sustainability through technology', the conference aimed to showcase progress and propose strategies to harness the transformative power of technology in the cement sector.
In his keynote address, Dr. Singh said: “The definition of sustainability means continuing the development and growth of our infrastructure while protecting the environment for our future generations. As far as cement and concrete sustainability is concerned, NCCBM is working on all aspects of cement and concrete sustainability.”
Phadke added: “India's cement sector is the most energy efficient, with a CO2 intensity reduction of more than 40 per cent at the India level. The industry progress report highlights the work the cement industry has done around the world. It follows the roadmap published globally by GCCA at the Glassdoor Summit to achieve Net Zero by 2050. The report also highlights our progress towards 2030.”
