In the wake of a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, the state government on Tuesday, December 26, issued a slew of measures to contain further spread of the virus. Wearing masks, adhering to COVID-appropriate behavior and not sending children with symptoms to schools are some of the measures decided by the government. The precautionary measures were announced after Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao held a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee on COVID-19.
As of December 26, a total of 436 active cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state. Of them, 400 patients are in home isolation and 36 in hospitals. The daily testing target was set at 5,000 samples per day starting Tuesday.
The government has also decided to administer vaccines to the elderly as a precautionary measure. Up to 30,000 preventive doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be purchased for vaccination, with special attention to the elderly and immunocompromised people, according to the statement.
