Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly announced that the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) have signed an agreement to install solar panels on all government buildings by the end of 2025. The Chief Minister said that the initiative is in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and is aimed at promoting a greener future.
Naidu, in a message on X, stated that the transition to solar energy is expected to result in both cost savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions. He stressed that a 25-year agreement would ensure that the cost of solar energy remains low. The Chief Minister estimated that the installation of 300 MW of solar PV systems on rooftops of government buildings could lead to annual savings of Rs 1.18 billion, with the total savings over 25 years expected to be Rs 29.57 billion. Moreover, the state could achieve a reduction in carbon emissions of 3.41 lakh metric tonnes per year, which amounts to 85.25 lakh metric tonnes over the 25-year period.
