Govt plans Rs. 1,000cr tourist parks

New Delhi : Attracting tourists from the world over the government is contemplating to set up 20 tourism parks across the country similar to the Sentosa theme park on an island in Singapore. The proposed project, which involved an investment of Rs. 1,000cr, will be the first of its kind in the country housing a hotel, convention centre, foot street, entertainment and amusement facilities. Sources claimed that the tourism parks will be set up on mission mode and they will come up at about 50 acres of land and will be equipped with adequate facilities including halts, craft centres and amphitheatres for hosting cultural events for holding tourists for longer time span as such projects including Sentosa in Singapore are doing brisk business. The parks will be developed by way of public private partnership module as the land is being made available by the state government or private partners. In addition to this, the concerned ministry is in the process of setting up 36 new tourist destinations across the country during the upcoming 12th five years plan.
