JSW deposes SAIL as largest domestic steel maker

Mumbai : JSW Steel to outshine the state-run Steel Authority of India (SAIL), with the commissioning of 3.2 million tonnes (mt) blast furnace at its Vijaynagar plant in Karnataka by mid-July. The new capacity addition will enable JSW to produce 14.3 million tonnes per annum steel, 0.7 mt more than SAIL. JSW’s Vijayanagar and Salem units are currently producing about 7.8 mtpa. Apart from SAIL and JSW, Tata Steel and Essar Steel are the two other big domestic producers, having a capacity of 7mtpa and 8mtpa respectively.
