Volvo to launch 'made in India' excavators

Bengaluru : Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), part of Volvo India Private Ltd (VIPL), is set to launch excavators manufactured in the country by November. The company, which imports different capacity excavators from its Korean facility, aims to manufacture excavators up to a 30-tonne capacity for the first time in India, a top company official has said.

“We have a manufacturing plant at Peenya (on the outskirts of Bangalore), where we are making a range entire of road-making machinery. We will invest Rs 90 crore to expand the factory to double the capacity to manufacture basic range of excavators up to a 30-tonne capacity for the Indian market. Machines above this capacity will still be imported as the volumes are very low for that,” VIPL managing director A M Muralidharan said.
