137 state units await coal allocation

Nagpur : NAGPUR Aug 30, 2011, 02.47AM IST:NAGPUR: The prevailing shortage of coal in the country may increase further as 1,513 power stations and industries including 137 from Maharashtra are in line for coal allocation for last three to four years. The existing thermal power stations and industries are facing huge shortage of coal due to gap between demand and production of coal.

Besides, many new power stations have started generation and are not getting coal supply from Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiaries. The Warora-based Wardha Power Company Ltd and city-based Abhijeet MADC Nagpur Energy Private Ltd are examples of such units. They are running the plants by purchasing coal in e-auction and other sources.
