Construction projects that produce 20 tons of waste or more should set up a recycling plant to convert the waste into aggregates for additional construction purposes.
The Bangladesh branch of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), the developers in Kolkata, has embraced the proposal and decided to implement it.
Construction waste consists of concrete blocks and damaged tiles that are not biodegradable. Instead of throwing them away, they can be used for driveway paving. The Civil Body would continue to clean up waste from smaller projects, although this waste would not be dumped in landfills.
KMC is building a crushing plant to convert the waste into aggregates that can be used as raw materials in construction projects.
