The Trichy Corporation has begun trial runs of the Thiruverumbur Water Supply Improvement Scheme (WSIS), which aims to supply water through pipe connections in the five added divisions.
The Rs 63.7 crore project funded by the German Development Bank is drawing water from Ayyalamman Ghats as work on extracting water from Cauvery bed in Srirangam has been delayed due to extensive water flow in the river.
Thiruverumbur WSIS is being implemented in three different phases, two of which are nearing completion. New pipelines for nearly 211 km have been constructed to connect the water source with eight new above-ground tanks in Thiruverumbur, which will help about 1 lakh people in wards 61 to 65.
