The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to spend Rs 1,300 crore to set up sewage treatment plants for the Oshiwara and Dahisar rivers under the river rejuvenation project.
A proposal on this will be presented at the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.
A BMC official said there are several works under the project such as the construction of retaining walls, sewage pipes, interceptors to prevent wastewater from flowing into rivers, access roads to rivers, stormwater drainage next to roads and sewage treatment plants. After treatment in plants, the water is released into the rivers.
About 90% of the work on the retaining walls and widening of the river has been completed, and 70% of the work on the access roads to the Dahisar River has also been completed.
