The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore processes nearly 1,000 kg of wet and dry waste on campus every day and has banned the use of plastic. It wants to become a zero-waste and a net-zero energy campus.
It has already turned the campus into a single-use plastic zone, replacing the plastic in canteens with wooden forks, spoons and paper plates.
The institute has established a system of internal collection, segregation and organic degradation of food and kitchen waste over an area of 35,000 square meters after mixing and grinding the waste in a thrasher.
The manure processing of the wet waste is used in the campus garden, which has a 5000 m² organic garden with fruits, vegetables and herbs.
