The Union government's Jal Jeevan mission has fulfilled the water supply dream of the Palli villagers, prompting the residents to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing water connections to every household in their region.
On Sunday, officials said the mood in the village, nestled in the wheat fields on the right side of the Jammu and Punjab national highway, was lively when the prime minister was in their place to address representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions across the country.
Sarpanch of Palli Panchayat Randhir Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi.
Officials said that under the Jal Jeevan mission launched by the prime minister in 2019, the village of Samba in Palli is fully saturated with 448 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) for Rs 143.40 lakh.
The Palli village water supply project also included a tube well with a discharge capacity of 6,000 gallons per hour.
A senior engineer from the J&K Jal Shakti department told media that the authority has also created the holding tank as part of the plan, with a capacity of 30,000 gallons. The water will be stored in a 30,000 gallon capacity sump, which will meet the water needs of Palli village.
The Prime Minister launched the Jal Jeevan scheme on August 15, 2019 to provide tap water to all households in the country in the coming years.
The Prime Minister has set himself the target of covering all rural households by 2024.
However, Jammu and Kashmir have set themselves the target of providing tap water to all households by 2022.
The J&K has already reached its target of providing tap water to all 22,422 schools and 23,926 Anganwadi centers in the union territory.
According to official figures, 4.86,000 households have been equipped with functional tap water connections in the union area since the start of the scheme.
J&K Jal Shakti Department has also opened 97 water quality testing labs in UT to the public to test water samples at a nominal rate to provide drinking water supply for drinking water.
