The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) plans to purchase about 200 new vehicles for solid waste management.
These vehicles cost about Rs 65 crore to the treasury of the municipal company.
The civil body has sent the proposal to the government for approval. The proposed 198 new vehicles include garbage trucks, tractors, garbage trucks, skid steer loaders, beach cleaning machines, portable toilets, compactors, etc.
GVMC will use the funds conceived under the 15th grant from the Finance Commission for the purchase of these vehicles.
Many such vehicles in the existing fleet used for solid waste management are nearing the end of their useful life.
