The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has invited bids to install and maintain bulk flow meters and SCADA systems in the newly developed areas of the city.
dr. CCMC's deputy commissioner M. Sharmila told media that to address the city's problems with water distribution, SCADA and bulk flow meters would be installed for 5.36 crore.
About ten years ago, the number of CCMC departments increased from 60 to 100. As a result, the local government struggled to supply the 40 departments that had just been added with sufficient water.
The public body has been running the 24-hour drinking water supply project through Suez Projects Private Limited in the old 60 wards. However, water is supplied to the other 40 departments through various schemes, including the Amrut and KVV schemes.
According to media sources, updated water flow meters would be installed and data would be collected using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to close the huge gap in water supply frequency in the districts.
The full project report provided by the civil authority has been given an administrative sanction by the Director of the Municipal Council and the Commissioner of the Municipal Council (CMA) for Technical Sanction. The implementation of the project will now be handled by the CCMC through a tender.
Sharmila announced that a tender has been launched for the installation and maintenance of 113 SCADA-equipped bulk flow meters.
The commissioner said 79 more bulk flow meters would be purchased and installed at a later date. The tender is open to bids from interested parties. Once implemented, the distribution problems would have been solved, ensuring sufficient drinking water availability everywhere.
