The Karnataka government would immediately release Rs 5 billion to facilitate repair and rehabilitation of roads, bridges and power lines, and for other infrastructure works in the flood-affected areas of the state, based on the report received from the districts on the magnitude of the losses, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Udupi this week.
Speaking at a media conference after chairing a meeting to discuss rescue and relief efforts in the flood-affected Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, Bommai said the situation would be reviewed in August and the necessary funds would be released.
Bommai added: “National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) officials, the district administration and lawmakers are ready to begin relief efforts on a war basis.
