Innovation, entrepreneurship, science and technology, research skills and good practices shape knowledge and turning knowledge into wealth is the future of the country, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, speaking at the convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Local Self Government held. today in Bombay.
The minister expressed the belief that the students graduating today will work for the country and society through their respective fields by using the knowledge they have gained. He said it is necessary to combine technology and education as technology is constantly changing around the world.
Gadkari said that in order to improve the quality of the projects of local self-government bodies, it is time that we hire world-class project management consultancies, and for that, technical parameters should be given more weight than financial qualifications. He said that if this does not happen, there will be little improvement in the governance of municipal authorities.
In order to improve the performance of the municipalities, says the minister, it is equally necessary to conduct efficiency studies in addition to financial control.
He said there is a need for financial empowerment of the local self-governing bodies, especially municipal corporations, by using technology that can be used to provide services such as road construction, waste management, water purification and 24-hour water supply in the best way. This not only saves money, but also generates income. As an example, Gadkari said that making public transport fully electric saves a lot of money.
