Minister of State (MoS) of Finance Bhagwat Karad has commissioned the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for reuse of the treated water released from the sewage treatment plants in Kanchanwadi, Padegaon and Jhalta Phata using the latest technology. The current WWTP water is not reusable.
Karad met this week with water experts from India and Israel at the premises of Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (ASCDCL). Israeli water expert Dr. Lior Asaf emphasized in his presentation that 90 percent of the treated water from STP can be reused.
Following on from this, Karad told the AMC to prepare the DPR. He also assured the civil body of obtaining funds from the central government.
The capacity of STP of AMC in Kanchanwadi is 161 MLD while the capacity of STP in Jhalta Phata and Padegaon is 35 MLD and 10 MLD respectively. Previously, the treated water from Kanchanwadi STP was used in the construction of the Samruddhi Expressway. Later, the treated water from Jhalta Phata STP was given to nearby farmers, while the purified water from the STPs of Kanchanwadi and Padegaon is discharged into the river and the nullah.
Efforts are now being made to supply the treated water from the WWTPs to the industries. The demand for this water will increase if the treated water is purer.
