Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is launching a waste separation pilot project. This was stated by Mayor JMC Rajinder Sharma along with Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria and Swachh Bharat Committee Chairman JMC Hardev Singh Mankotia.
The mayor stated that JMC will launch a campaign in all wards, in which he, Commissioner JMC and other staff members and corporators of the respective wards will participate.
The campaign focuses on waste separation at source, separating wet and dry waste to keep Jammu clean and beautiful. He stated that our slogan is "Make My City Beautiful".
Rajinder Sharma stated that in the beginning 100 houses will be chosen in each district where waste will be separated before being disposed of in a car. This way there won't be big piles of garbage lying around, he added.
Sharma insisted that this will be a difficult task and stated that people are not used to this kind of habits yet and changing their lifelong habit will take time as old habits die hard.
According to the mayor, JMC's focus is on good sanitary facilities and keeping the city neat and clean. He stated that in this regard, awareness will be raised through business leaders, staff, Nukads and others to get people's cooperation and make the campaign more effective.
He stated that once the campaign has achieved the desired results, there will be no more garbage dumps scattered throughout the city's neighborhoods. "Once we achieve the desired results and see that the campaign was successful, the next 100 homes will be selected for waste collection and treatment." He stated that one of the reasons for rubbish dumps along roadsides and roadways is that people are not in the habit of putting rubbish in cars.
