The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved river rejuvenation projects in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal totaling more than Rs 27 billion. Sewage infrastructure is being constructed in cities/towns such as Kolkata, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Motihari and Dhanbad, among others, with a special focus on the tributaries of the Ganga.
In addition, the NMCG has approved scientific research on floral diversity and conservation projects along the banks of the Ganga River. Among the four states, projects in Dhanbad, Jharkhand will receive the most funding, totaling more than Rs 8.08 billion, for reducing pollution in Damodar, a major tributary of the Ganges.
