The long-awaited Brahmaputra River Development Project in the northeastern region is about to receive a significant boost as strategic gateways are planned along the course. This ambitious project aims to revitalise the riverfront and create a vibrant and well-designed area that will promote tourism, economic activities and recreational spaces for residents.
Overseen by Guwahati Smart City (GSCL), the project is being carried out by the renowned Italian-Thai Development Public Company (ITD), a prominent real estate and construction company from Thailand.
An insider from ITD Cementation India shared with G Plus: "This project is going to be nothing short of amazing, with an international touch."
The project involves the efforts of more than 100 individuals, including engineers, who are dedicated to its successful implementation.
Estimated at Rs 3.7 billion, the development includes several crucial elements, including the construction of a 15-metre-wide boulevard, retaining walls and connecting ramps. These features will not only improve accessibility, but also provide breathtaking views of the majestic Brahmaputra River.
To cater to the convenience of tourists and locals alike, four amenity buildings will be built along the 1.2-kilometer stretch of development. These buildings will house essential facilities such as restrooms, food stalls and information centers, giving visitors a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
In addition, the project includes the transformation of the Uzan Bazar fish market, the largest fish market in the area. This redevelopment will not only improve the livelihoods of local fishermen, but also create a modern and organized space for buyers and sellers.
Safety and security will be prioritized during the development project. Area lighting will be carefully installed, ensuring visibility and creating a safe environment for tourists, locals and vendors during the evening hours.
Although the start of the project is still a few years away, with an expected date of March 16, 2025, the expectation is growing steadily among the local community and stakeholders. The Brahmaputra River Development Project is seen as a crucial step towards unlocking the region's tourism potential and promoting economic growth.
