• I have worked as a technical support engineer in renewable heating for a decade and a half. I specialised in Air source heat pumps in the domestic sector. I joined this industry before it was cool to be in renewable heating and before the government here in the UK jumped on the bandwagon. I have experimented with this technology in my own house, and I am ashamed to say in the early days in our customers houses too. My team and I learnt a lot on the way, we have been cold and wet, we have been shouted at and held high on the shoulders of our peers at times. It?s been a real roller coaster.
• Over that time, I have been asked literally thousands of questions. I?m inherently lazy so to save me answering them again I chose the most popular questions and tried my best to answer them here. This book is designed to help with the most common questions asked by homeowners and heat pump novices. If it goes down well I might just do one for engineers and heating professionals.
• Heat pumps are not really very complicated once you strip away the jargon, so in this book I?m going to try to make the subjects easy to understand using analogies and stories which are easier to relate to. I?ve tried to keep the answers as simple as I can without wading into thermodynamics and mindless maths.
• Hopefully this will be useful to homeowners, installers, energy surveyors and heat pump deniers alike.
