RILEM Recommendations for the Prevention of Damage by Alkali-Aggregate Reactions in New Concrete Structures: State-of-the-Art Report of the RILEM ... 219-ACS: 17 (RILEM State-of-the-Art Reports) - Product Features
  • This book contains the full set of RILEM Recommendations which have been produced to enable engineers, specifiers and testing houses to design and produce concrete which will not suffer damage arising from alkali reactions in the concrete. There are five recommended test methods for aggregates (designated AAR-1 to AAR-5), and an overall recommendation which describes how these should be used to enable a comprehensive aggregate assessment (AAR-0). Additionally, there are two Recommended International Specifications for concrete (AAR-7.1 & 7.2) and a Preliminary International Specification for dams and other hydro structures (AAR-7.3), which describe how the aggregate assessment can be combined with other measures in the design of the concrete to produce a concrete with a minimised risk of developing damage from alkali-aggregate reactions.

Repairing and Querying Databases under Aggregate Constraints (SpringerBriefs in Computer Science) - Product Features
  • Research has deeply investigated several issues related to the use of integrity constraints on relational databases. In particular, a great deal of attention has been devoted to the problem of extracting "reliable" information from databases containing pieces of information inconsistent with regard to some integrity constraints. In this manuscript, the problem of extracting consistent information from relational databases violating integrity constraints on numerical data is addressed. Aggregate constraints defined as linear inequalities on aggregate-sum queries on input data are considered. The notion of repair as consistent set of updates at attribute-value level is exploited, and the characterization of several data-complexity issues related to repairing data and computing consistent query answers is provided. Moreover, a method for computing ?reasonable? repairs of inconsistent numerical databases is introduced, for a restricted but expressive class of aggregate constraints. An extension of this method for dealing with the data repairing problem in the presence of weak aggregate constraints which are expected to be satisfied, but not required to, is presented. Furthermore, a technique for computing consistent answers of aggregate queries in the presence of a wide form of aggregate constraints is provided. Finally, extensions of the framework as well as several open problems are discussed.

Use Of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate In Pediatric Dentistry - Product Features
  • MTA materials have an excellent potential for endodontic use. Their good radioopacity keeps the mindispensable for certain clinical applications. PCs seem to have a biocompatible nature and similar technical characteristics like commercial MTA materials. A disadvantage of Portland cement is that it has lower radioopacity and its main advantage is its very low cost. The use of expensive commercial dental MTA materials for primary teeth endodontics in an attempt to substitute less efficient or toxic materials. It is interesting that no information has been published regarding details that led to the precise delineation of the present MTA materials.Changing usage from grey to white MTA was simply changing from grey to white Portland cement as base material to mix with bismuth oxide. The short coming of MTA is its longer setting time and its cost, which needs to be considered . As yet unsolved is the occurrence of clinical discoloration after the use of MTA materials.

Properties and Novel Applications of Recycled Aggregates - Product Features
  • The aggregates used in construction are the natural resource consumed the most in the world after air and water. Due to overexploitation, all environmental laws reward the use of recycled materials to guarantee the reduction of consumption of natural aggregates. The use of reclaimed aggregates, reused aggregates, and recycled aggregates increases sustainability in construction activities. Today, they are strategic materials in the manufacturing of green concrete and mortars and as road construction eco-efficient materials. In addition, the use of recycled aggregates from industrial or mining byproducts presents great potential in construction activities as recycled aggregates and/or supplementary cementitious materials. This Special Issue is open to new experiences in construction materials and/or works made with recycled aggregates.

The Psychology of the Aggregate Mind of an Audience (Classic Reprint) - Product Features
  • To begin with, the importance of the psychology of the aggregate mind is self - evident, since it is the prac tical side of the science. For a clear scientific under standing of the laws governing a group of individual minds would at least give the world a new applied science of great value. If these laws were established, they would give a sounder, safer basis for the handling of such groups by leaders, and would furnish the indi viduals of mental aggregates with a better, deeper knowledge of themselves by disclosing one of the im portant factors which in?uence their lives.

Subcontracting, Coordination, Flexibility, and Production Smoothing in Aggregate Planning (Classic Reprint) - Product Features
  • Excerpt from Subcontracting, Coordination, Flexibility, and Production Smoothing in Aggregate Planning Subcontracting is the procurement of an item or service which is normally capable of economic production in the prime contractors own facilities and which requires the prime contractor to make specifications available to the supplier (j. S. Day Despite a high degree of both vertical and horizontal integration, it is very doubtful whether any modern business enterprise can be self - sufficient in all its activities. Path Coupling and Aggregate Path Coupling (SpringerBriefs in Probability and Mathematical Statistics) - Product Features
  • This book describes and characterizes an extension to the classical path coupling method applied to statistical mechanical models, referred to as aggregate path coupling. In conjunction with large deviations estimates, the aggregate path coupling method is used to prove rapid mixing of Glauber dynamics for a large class of statistical mechanical models, including models that exhibit discontinuous phase transitions which have traditionally been more difficult to analyze rigorously. The book shows how the parameter regions for rapid mixing for several classes of statistical mechanical models are derived using the aggregate path coupling method.

Why and How Humans Trade, Predict, Aggregate, and Innovate: An Economist?s Lessons on the Role of Human Behavior and Economic Systems (Contributions to Economics) - Product Features
  • Trading, forecasting, aggregating, and innovating (the Four) are key social interactions in human life at both the individual and aggregate levels. They are part of the human fabric because they stem from mankind?s peculiarities?heterogeneity, inclination to forecast, sociality, and inventiveness. But humans have multifaceted behavior, too. They are capable of having contradictory impulses towards one another, integrating and disintegrating as well as cooperating and dominating, and behaving prosocially and anti-socially. Hence, humans need to organize themselves in order to maintain, improve, and extend their social interactions as well as a safe and ordered life. Crucial intersections emerge naturally?the efficiency of humans? way of tackling the Four is a joint product of economic systems, institutions, and behaviors.
  • All told, the main idea of this book is to include in a single tour a collection of insights on why and how humans implement the Four. The narrative highlights several connections as well as how key these businesses are as the traveler is escorted through some Four-related behavioral problems and institutional solutions that humans have been, respectively, facing and elaborating over time. Economics students may exploit this book by both inserting what they are learning from textbooks into a wider framework and enjoying some of the hints revealed by the grand social theorizing of giants such as A. Smith and J. Schumpeter. But the proposed tour may also attract outsiders to economics who are curious about disparate economic themes linked to the Four but who wish to gain an overview without engaging in longer readings.

A Conceptual Model for Designing Recycled Aggregate Concrete for Structural Applications (Springer Theses) - Product Features
  • This book reports on the physical and mechanical characterization of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC), produced through a partial-to-total replacement of ordinary aggregates with what have been dubbed Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCAs). It proposes a theoretical framework for understanding the relationships between RCAs and RCA, and for predicting the resulting behavior of RAC. The book demonstrates that in the case of RAC two additional parameters have to be taken into account than with ordinary aggregates, due to the composite nature and higher porosity of RCAs. By extending Abrams? Law for Recycled Aggregate Concrete, it represents a first step in the formulation of a general model for predicting the properties of RAC. The theoretical approach presented here addresses an important gap in the literature and is expected to stimulate new research on the use of this more sustainable form of concrete in structural applications.

Inflation and the Structure of Aggregate Output: Theoretical, Empirical and Policy Issues - Product Features
  • Contrary to the Quantity Theory of Money, which in its various forms, implies that increases in output of goods and services will, ceteris paribus, exert downward pressure on the general price level, Dr. Nwankwo in this book, argues that the growth of some components of output could accentuate, rather than dampen inflation. This phenomenon, which the author has termed 'Disaggregation Dissonance Hypothesis', states that while some components of the GDP may be inversely related to the price level, other components may be positively related to the price level. In addition, interaction between sectors, measured for example with the ratio of non-agricultural output to agricultural output, could also affect the price level. In view of these observations, the author argues that the practice based on the Quantity Theory of using aggregate output as an explanatory variable for the price level is defective and inappropriate and that the use of aggregate output in an empirical study is of limited relevance because it obscures a lot of the underlying influences which are necessary for understanding the structure and dynamics of inflation. He contends that a more appropriate approach will be to use disaggregated components of the GDP, as well as sectoral interaction variables in order to bring out the different ways in which the different components of the GDP impact inflation.
  • The author supports his thesis with an econometric investigation, using Nigeria's data from 1960 to 2011, which shows that when the GDP is split into agricultural and non-agricultural components, the former impacts the price level inversely, while the latter impacts the price level positively.

Treatise on the Law of Private Corporations Aggregate (1861): Seventh Edition. Revised, Corrected and Enlarged - Product Features
  • Reprint of the seventh edition. The first American treatise on the subject, it departed from English models to address the unique characteristics of the American corporation in the years after 1815, an era of unprecedented growth that was encouraged by the courts. It was the standard treatise of its day. In his Legal Bibliography (1847) Marvin says it was "undoubtedly the best work... an American lawyer can possess" and notes that "Chancellor Kent highly recommends the book" (63). The first edition was published in 1832; the final edition was published in 1882. The seventh edition is desirable because it summarizes the state of the field before it was revolutionized by the Civil War economy and the rise of modern corporate capitalism after 1865. lvi, 810 pp.

Suspensions of Colloidal Particles and Aggregates: 20 (Particle Technology Series) - Product Features
  • This book addresses the properties of particles in colloidal suspensions. It has a focus on particle aggregates and the dependency of their physical behaviour on morphological parameters. For this purpose, relevant theories and methodological tools are reviewed and applied to selected examples. The book is divided into four main chapters. The first of them introduces important measurement techniques for the determination of particle size and interfacial properties in colloidal suspensions. A further chapter is devoted to the physico-chemical properties of colloidal particles?highlighting the interfacial phenomena and the corresponding interactions between particles. The book?s central chapter examines the structure-property relations of colloidal aggregates. This comprises concepts to quantify size and structure of aggregates, models and numerical tools for calculating the (light) scattering and hydrodynamic properties of aggregates, and a discussion on van-der-Waals and double layer interactions between aggregates. It is illustrated how such knowledge may significantly enhance the characterisation of colloidal suspensions. The final part of the book refers to the information, ideas and concepts already presented in order to address technical aspects of the preparation of colloidal suspensions?in particular the performance of relevant dispersion techniques and the stability of colloidal suspensions.
